LOCAL MENTORS

Jim Alexander graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. with Degrees in business and industrial engineering. Jim has worked in various capacities but spent the last 20 years as a steel puchasing agent. He retired from General Motors after 40 years and went to work for a steel slitting company in Elwood, IN. as general manager for 9 years. He has done accounting work and been treasurer of a church, Masonic Lodge,and condominium associations. His areas of expertise include purchasing, production control and planning, management and accounting.

 

Bob Anders graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the first sixteen years of his career in product engineering roles at Square D and Eaton Corporation where he designed, developed and provided field support for mechanical and electromechanical products for the industrial and heavy truck marketplaces. He then moved into Quality/Product Assurance and Plant Management roles for eleven years before becoming Director of North American Operations for TRW's Engine Components Division. Bob spent the last five years of his career as the Chief Operating Officer of Guide Corporation. His areas of expertise include product design and development, problem solving, scrap reduction, concepts of continuous improvement and high quality manufacturing.

 

Grover Archer has extensive banking experience, primarily retail banking, consumer lending, marketing, and branch administration. He attended Indiana University, Graduate School of Banking University of Wisconsin, and School of Bank Marketing University of Colorado. He served Anderson Banking Company as Sr. VP and Director of Retail Banking, and worked for National City Bank, retiring as President, National City Bank, East Region. He also served as Sr. VP of Retail Banking for Ameriana Bank, New Castle.

 

D. Douglas Barron received a Bachelor Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute and a Master of Materials Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic. He has Thirty-six years of engineering and management work experience at Delco Remy and Delphi in the following areas: process Engineering, materials, foreman, general foreman and operations manager in manufacturing, advance engineering, product engineering and Battery Business Product Team leader. He had international business experience with the Delphi battery business in Europe, Japan, Korea and Brazil. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana for 28 years and is currently a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers serving on the Automotive Battery Standards committee. His areas of expertise include engineering and manufacturing management, organization and planning, and materials and process engineering.

Lyle Crouse graduated from G.M.I. with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and has advanced training from Ball State University, University of Chicago, and Goldratt Institute. Work experience has been 33 years with Delco Remy Division of GM, supervising and managing plant operations in Anderson, IN and start-up plants in Meridian and Laurel, MS. Also 5 years VP of Operations with a precision component supplier in Madison, WI. His areas of expertise are business planning, budgeting, lean manufacturing systems, root cause analysis, identification and solving constraints in operations and systems, material flow, and developing Win-Win solutions.

 

William (Tom) Cullop graduated from Purdue University (BS Civil Engineering) and Ball State University (MA, Business Administration). He has forty-four years of engineering and management experience in construction and facility management. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana. He has experience implementing utility and facility expansions in US and Mexico. He has forty-one years of engineering and management experience with Guide (GM & Guide Corporation) in the following areas: maintenance foreman, engineer, engineering supervisor, plant engineer, and director of facilities. His areas of expertise include engineering and project management, project planning, and facility management.

Michael E. Gill graduated from Purdue University (A.S. in Food Service and Lodging Supervision, 1972) and Indiana University (B.P.A.. 1985 and M. P. A. 1995 in Public Administration). He served as Director of School and Community Nutrition Programs, Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) for 8 years. He also served in several supervisory and consultant positions during more than 30 years with IDOE. He is also a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer with more than 26 years of combined active and reserve duty. His areas of expertise include managing food service operations, government affairs, organization and planning, and personnel management.

 

Charlie Jones was President/CEO of Gedge Bros. Steel Co. for 31 years, a wholesaler of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration products. Charlie was co-owner of Gayee Sales Co., Inc. a rack jobber of health and beauty aids for 24 years. At Gedge Bros. Charlie had complete responsibility for the operation of the business. Charlie graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree. He is past chair of Score Chapter 519, Anderson Chamber of Commerce, Madison County Red Cross and Past President Anderson Noon Kiwanis.

 

DeWayne Landwehr graduated from General Motors Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and subsequently received an MA in Business Management from Ball State University. He also studied at the College for Financial Planning and received a Certificate as a Financial Planner. His 37-year career at General Motors included stints in nearly every aspect of industrial manufacturing, design and engineering, with the largest amount of time spent in product development. He spent eight years in Detroit, as a Systems Engineer and in Automotive Safety Engineering, working with the US Department of Transportation on automotive regulations. Upon retirement from GM, he established a certified Sustainable Forest and operated a sawmill and wood products business. He served as Director of the Flagship Enterprise Center for five years, and as CFO for a chemical manufacturing business. Among his other experiences, he has assisted several non-profit organizations in their initial organization and startup phases.  Areas of expertise include product development and engineering, strategic business planning and non-profits

Jerry Wise has been the President of Wise, Incorporated for the past 37 years. Wise, Incorporated is a general commercial construction and development company located in Muncie, IN. Jerry graduated in 1972 from Ball State University with a B.S. in Business Administration, and has led the company from its inception. The major focus of the company is on the development of medical facilities throughout Indiana, Maryland, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. These ventures involve partnering with the physicians that become tenant/owners. Jerry has invested in the real estate market for the past 30 years. His portfolio includes free standing medical/surgery facilities, shopping centers, strip centers, medical and office buildings. Jerry is co-owner of Network Property Services which provides management, leasing and maintenance services for these investments. This business was established in 1994. Mr. Wise has his Indiana Real Estate Sales License and is actively involved and engaged in the Muncie community as he continues to develop the campus Village area.
